Concordia Prep Announces New Head Girls Basketball Coach

Concordia Prep is excited to announce Mr. Brian Sansom as the new Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach!

Coach Sansom joined Concordia Prep this past July as the Athletics Director, hitting the ground running and supporting all athletic programs from his former experiences as recruiter, coach, and student advocate. Coach Sansom will now serve the Saints community in both roles.

"I am excited to lead this program forward as the new Head Girls Basketball Coach, continuing our mission to develop student-athletes who compete with heart, grow with purpose, and live out our core values of faith, integrity, service, leadership, and community," shared Sansom regarding his appointment as head coach.

Prior to coming to the School, he served as the vice president for enrollment and athletics as well as the director of athletics at Bethany College in West Virginia.

In addition to his former administrative roles, Coach Sansom served as as head women's basketball coach for Bethany beginning in 2016. Under his leadership, the Bethany Bison women's basketball team achieved six consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament appearances, including a semifinal berth and notched a 15-win season in the 2021-22 season both the first since 2011-12. He coached 12 All-PAC athletes including back-to-back PAC Newcomer of the Year recipients and a D3Hoops.com Rookie of the Year and D3Hoops.com All- Region player.

Prior to Bethany, Coach Sansom spent a season at Fairleigh Dickinson, a NCAA Division I member of the Northeast Conference. Under his leadership, he helped the Knights to the quarterfinals of the NEC Championship Tournament and coached three All-NEC selections.

Additionally, he spent four seasons beginning in 2011 at Montclair State University where he served as assistant coach with the university posting a total record of 107-14, including a 58-6 mark in conference play. In 121 total games, the Red Hawks posted a winning percentage of .884, won three NJAC titles, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament “Sweet 16”, “Elite 8” and “Final Four” in consecutive seasons. In 2015, Montclair finished third in the Nation, defeating Tufts University, 56-48, in the consolation game.

During Coach Sansom's time with the Red Hawks, he coached 12 All-NJAC selections, including seven first-team honorees. He also helped his athletes to eight D3Hoops.com All-Region picks, as well as four D3Hoops.com and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American selections. One of the top players in Montclair State history, Melissa Tobie, played all four years under the tutelage of Coach Sansom. Tobie was a three-time NJAC Player of the Year, recorded over 2,000 career points while also tallying 1,000 career rebounds. In four seasons with Coach Sansom, Tobie was a three-time All-American selection, as well as being named a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.

"This program has a proud tradition, and I am honored to help continue that legacy—while also shaping a new chapter", said Coach Sansom. "With a strong foundation of discipline, teamwork, and accountability, we will look to elevate our program and compete with pride and purpose."

Join us in welcoming Coach Sansom to his new coaching role in our Saints community. We are grateful for his continued partnership in our mission here at Concordia Prep.
