Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies tells the rousing, true-to-history story of the 1899 Newsboys Strike. Jack Kelly, a charismatic and rebellious newsboy dreaming of a better life, leads his fellow “newsies” as they scrape together a living selling newspapers on the city streets. When publisher Joseph Pulitzer and other giants of the press raise distribution prices at the kids’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to stand up, form a union, and strike for fair treatment. With the help of independent young reporter Katherine Plummer, the newsies fight for justice and prove that even those with the least power can spark real change.
