Why Concordia Prep
For over 60 years, Concordia Prep has provided a faith-based college preparatory education while supporting the growth and empowerment of its students to become faithful servant leaders and the best versions of themselves for our world.
In addition to academic programs, the School offers a wide range of co-curricular activities, including sports, performing arts, and leadership opportunities, built upon foundational values of faith, integrity, service, leadership, and community.
As the only Lutheran high school in Maryland and one of five Lutheran middle schools in the state, we understand our values-driven mission and work alongside our communities to equip students for their next steps after graduating from Concordia Prep. It is such a great time to be a Saint!
What kind of school is Concordia Prep?
Concordia Prep school is a compassionate, Christ-centered community of servant leaders. Started in 1965, as Baltimore Lutheran School, Concordia Prep has a rich history of excellence in education, faith development, and community service. Serving grades 6 through 12, Concordia Prep is affiliated with the Lutheran Church Missouri-Synod and welcomes students from all backgrounds and religions.
What is the schedule like?
The school day begins at 7:55 a.m. and is dismissed at 2:55 p.m. during the week.
Middle School students begin their first class at 7:55 a.m. usually in Kuenne Hall.
Upper School students that do not have a first period class at 7:55 a.m. begin their school day at 8:40 a.m. in the classroom.
Extra-curricular activities begin after school between 3:15 pm and 4:00 pm. and can end later depending on the activity.
When can students be dropped off and picked up?
Students may be dropped off as early as 7:15 a.m. on campus.
Upper School students who are not participating in afterschool activities may wait for rides in the Bridges Media Center located in Hofmeister Hall.
The Extended Day Program (EDP) is available to all Middle School students. Either directly at the end of the school day or after their afterschool activities have concluded, students are able to go to the designated EDP faculty and stay until 6:00 p.m. when families arrive on campus. Please note that there is a small associated fee for utilizing this program.
Does the Middle School stay separated from the Upper School?
There are separate campus buildings for the Middle and Upper School students. The Middle School begins their school day in Kuenne Hall where their lockers are located along with classrooms. The Upper School students begin their day in Hoffmeister Hall where their lockers are located.
There is some overlap depending on students' enrolled courses (i.e., an eighth grader is taking a high school level course). Upper-level math and world languages classes tend to be held in Hofmeister Hall.
Additionally, students do pass each other around campus and there are campus-wide chapels, assemblies, and mentorship activities where both Middle and Upper School students interact along with faculty.
Is there an available support program for students with learning differences or special needs?
The Giguere Program is designed for college-bound students with diagnosed learning differences. The program aims to ensure students with academic accommodations are offered those for classroom support and assessments.
Additionally, Giguere provides resources and study strategies to promote skills assisting students to succeed independently at higher education levels. Giguere promotes each student’s individual strengths and fosters an environment of inclusive excellence.
Families can express interest on their admissions applications or schedule a time to meet with our team to discuss any additional questions.
