BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Student Policy Reminder

Digital Standardized Testing – Coming Fall 2023
The PSAT will be administered to upper school students in a digital format next school year. Only Windows laptops, iPads, and Macbooks are compatible devices. Students will be required to install an application on their personal devices for digital testing. Unfortunately, Chromebooks cannot be used for the digital PSAT. The school will have a limited number of compatible devices for students to borrow for standardized testing purposes.

You will receive more information regarding the digital standardized testing process, including the required grade levels, from the Guidance Office at a later date. Please contact Mrs. Amanda Trapani, Director of Technology at amandatrapani@concordiaprepschool.org, if your student may need to borrow a school device for the digital PSAT

Personal Device Technical Requirements:
  1. The device must be a laptop or a tablet with a 7” or larger screen size.
  2. The device must use a supported operating system that is actively updated by the manufacturer, i.e. Microsoft Windows 10 or Apple iOS 13.
  3. The device must have a modern, fully-featured web browser; such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari. **The device must be able to specifically run the Google Chrome web browser.
  4. The device must have fully functional, active anti-virus/anti-malware software (most modern computers have built-in software tools). **Tablets; such as iPads or Chromebooks are excluded from this requirement.
  5. The device must have a functioning built-in camera.
  6. A full-sized keyboard is strongly recommended.
  7.  **Personal devices should have a battery life of at least 6-7 hours. Students must bring personal devices to school fully charged each day. 8.
  8. In order for the device to be fully compatible with our school’s wireless network, it should have been purchased within the last 5 years.
We also recommend the student carries the device in a protective case, sleeve, or laptop bag. The school’s Technology Department is not authorized to repair a student’s personal computer.

The CPS technology department recommends the following devices:
  • Windows 10 laptop
  • Apple MacBook
  • Microsoft Surface
  • Google Chromebook*
*Google Chromebooks are no longer recommended for upper school students because of digital standardized testing.
